Much admire these lovely Bird Houses I tried one myself. Here we are:
What I was not happy with - too small, hole in a wrong place, too bland... OK, I will use it as a feeder.
After getting a few valuable advices on forum I wanted to make it bigger and "more glamourous"! I've made it, yes, but now I think I like the first one more! Anyway here is my second (and not last!) bird house:
Please note a piggy tail at the bottom - to fix it and to stop the bird house swaying in a wind!
Very nice, really like the "piggy tail" idea too! Did you see Lyn's comment on my blog about making the holes different sizes to attract different bird species? I hadn't realised they were so fussy!
ReplyDeleteIn theory, yes, different birds prefer different sizes of holes and other parameters. In our garden only blue tits live in bird houses never mind the size of the hole! I save all the information Lyn provided though. Not sure I can create an exact hole's size... But I will give them a choice definetely!
DeleteIt turned out nicely - good idea for keeping it steady. Can't wait to see the next one ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Ruth! You will see plenty! I love making them!
DeleteI've tried to make a few but so far have cut the hole too big or in the wrong place (too low). Love yours, especially the second one, the colors are lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you Laura! Yes a hole could be a tricky one! Try to make a hole just big enough to pull a resist out. If it's getting bigger still you can stitch loosely around the hole and pull the thread to make a size you wish. Do it before fulling and remove (or not!) the thread afterwards. It will help to keep the hole smaller while you are fulling.
